How to design a fashion magazine - layouts, fonts and headlines

How to design a fashion magazine like Vogue 1. Do your research Before you start designing the fashion magazine, you should look for inspiration in other fashion magazines, online or printed. Make a collection of the things that you like. You can find interesting ideas such as cool type combinations, catchy layouts or inspiration for a trendy color palette. Maybe you are asking yourself: how and where to store all this information? We recommend you to use a mood board, which is a collage consisting of images, typefaces, colors, which will help you define the style of your fashion magazine. This technique will boost your creativity, will help you stay more organized, find new ideas and keep the same mood throughout the entire fashion magazine. 2. Follow the trend with your content For fashion magazines the content is really important. It has to be catchy to grab the attention of the audience. The readers are always looking for something new and you should try to ...

My headline idea + in class feedback

I found this picture on the Facebook page of one of my favourite make-up brands: INGLOT Romania, and decided to "steal" it because the make-up was so pretty and the picture looks very editorial to me. I find that this image could be used ad a front cover for a make-up magazine. What inspired me to write the headline was the recent release of their latest make-up palette inspired by the autumnal colours, called "What a spice". Therefore, I thought that if this image from Inglot was to be published on a make-up magazine or in their store banners and used as an advert, I would add a headline like in the following picture. The hashtag also lets the viewer of the picture know that they can access more details online if they are interested in how to achieve the look and the products used simply by searching it on social media platforms etc. Lou and other students that saw my headline told me that they really liked it and found in to be editorial-appropia...

What makes an impactful headline? Research

On the average, five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.  —David Ogilvy "The most important part of writing an article is the headline. The same principle applies to blog posts, book chapters, and so on: The title is where your focus should be. You should begin and end every article with the question: “Would this make me want to read on?” If not, don’t publish until you’ve got a catchy headline. Concentrate on this, and you’ll get more readers, more buzz, and more love. How to write catchy headlines Too often the headline is the most neglected part of writing an article. People just gloss over it without taking much time to consider it. In their minds, it’s the cherry on top. No, friends; it’s not. The headline is the sundae. I sometimes deliberate over titles for 30–60 minutes before settling on one that works. And I often go ...

What makes an impactful headline? In class pictures, notes and homework

In our first lesson, we were presented out brief and then we started talking about magazine headlines and layouts, but most importantly, how we should create an impactful headline for our own article.  Here are some pictures of the in-class presentation, as I rarely take notes and prefer to be very mindful of what the teacher is explaining rather than just wasting time writing and falling behind on the explanations. So this kind of posts will be basically like a notebook where I record all I do/read in class. Our homework is to find an image that we like and to put an impactful headline on it, and then present it in class in the next session.

Preparing the skin and body for application

How to prepare the skin for beautiful make-up application 1. Cleansing your face is crucial! You don't want any residue or impurities to relax overnight on your skin causing you acne and breakouts. My personal favourite at the moment is DR. Organic Tea Tree Face wash, or, when I feel lazy or I have eyeliner and bold matte lips to take-off, I use Garner Micellar Water. 2. Always use toner ! It's very important to bring the PH balance of your skin back and toner it's a great way of doing this and cleaning any residue that might be left after cleansing. 3. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! A very important step in your day-to-day skincare routine should be moisturising your face after cleansing it, once in the morning, and once in the evening. Day cream and night cream have both different qualities, so it's good to pay attention to these aspects as well when going "skincare shopping". These are the most important steps for a basic main...
